about

My grandma was Amahlie's biggest fan. Every time we released a new song, I would send her a translated version of the lyrics and we would talk about everything, from the way I felt when I wrote to her opinions on the lyrics and the song. She once told me that she listened to every single one of them every day. She became an integral part of my writing routine.

Ever since the day she passed away, exactly five months ago, I have been working on this song; it's something I think she would have liked to listen to, something to remember her as the amazing person she was. This tribute is the least I can do, a final demonstration of the unconditional love I felt and still feel.

Talking to my mother, remembering every moment we shared with my grandma, it was hard to hold back the tears. Not just of sadness and longing, but also of honour for having been able to spend so many years of my life with such a beautiful person.

lyrics

When I left my home I didn't know
It would be the last time that I'd see you
We come from the earth, to the earth we go
But I always assumed you'd be forever

Bela, mother of my mother
Look at the person you've become
The places you have gone
The things that you've overcome
The unrelenting peace you did achieve

Look at the family you've created
Your children with their spouses and all their kids
All here together thinking of you
Remembering the great woman you were

I know you were happy when you finally left
No issues to solve, no pain, no stress
Now you have breathed your last breath
But the things that you said will never fade away

Now I cry for you are not with us
I see my mother crying on her bed
It's hard to digest the cruelty of death
But the memory of you will everlast

I saw a new star in the sky tonight
